  • how spicy is it? is it all spicy?

    Almost all of our chilli products are in the MILD to MEDIUM range— here at Salt Gang we are much more interested in layers and depth of flavour than pure chilli heat!

    However, our Hot Fermented Sambal will satisfy any chilli head, and has tons of incredible flavour to boot.

    If you don’t like spice at all you can still find a place in Salt Gang! Our Secret Weapon Soy and 14 Spice Oil have no chilli heat, just MAJOR flavour.

  • How do i use your products?

    However you like! There are few hard and fast rules when it comes to cooking and flavours and we want you to free your minds!

    Spoon our Chilli Crisp over anything that needs some heat and texture (eggs, dumplings, steak, avo toast), drizzle Straight Up chilli oil into soup and salad and over roast veg, and use Hot Fermented Honey literally on anything savoury, it’s the mainstay of our cooking.

    We have recipes and loads of serving suggestions on our instagram!

  • do you use msg or preservatives?

    Nope! No MSG or preservatives in anything we make for Salt Gang.

    We do use MSG personally in our lazy home cooking from time to time, because it’s tasty and such an easy way to boost flavour.

    However we are great cooks and know how to get huge umami without resorting to shop bought additives, so you will never find MSG in a Salt Gang product.

  • how does shipping work?

    We work hard to make sure your tasty goodies get to you quickly!

    We post to anywhere in Australia using a variety of AUSPOST and courier companies. Once you order you’ll receive tracking.

    If you have a preference for shipping with AUSPOST, please email us and let us know.

    You are also welcome to select Pick Up and collect from us at a market or from our home in Glenelg!

  • Where do you source your ingredients?

    We work hard to source hyper local and Australian ingredients wherever possible.

    Many of our seasonal ferments are made with local organic produce we buy at farmers markets, and we also source lemons and bay from our home garden.

    We use McLaren Vale EVOO for our Italian flavours and an Australian cold pressed non GMO canola oil for the base of our Chinese chilli flavours.

    We use a lot of spices that are not grown in commercial quantities in Australia, so we order from Yue Kee Grocer near the Central Markets. Most spices are grown in China or Indonesia.

  • how do i get salt gang?

    You can buy here on our site, at our markets (check our schedule to see where we will be) or at our stockists!

  • do you do wholesale? kitchen service?

    Hell yeah we do. We offer our whole range for retail and kitchen service, just email us at saltgangau@gmail.com for a price sheet and more info.

  • How should i store it?

    We recommend storing most of our products like drizzling chilli oils, chilli crisps, soy and sauce, salt, and fermented honeys in the pantry

    Away from bright light or heat, with the caps screwed on nice and tight, all these products have a very long shelf life.

    The KIMCHI and CHIU CHOW sauce shoud be stored in the fridge.

  • why don't you use olive oil for all your oils?

    MANY reasons!! We love EVOO but it has a very particular flavour profile that simply doesn’t work well with everything.

    For most of our Chinese chilli flavours, EVOO is too strong and too bitter.

    It goes rancid quicker, and doesn’t react well to being heated to a high temperature as per the Chinese techinque we use.

    If you’re after a delcious EVOO chilli oil, our Olio Santo Italian oil is for you.
